It’s hard to beat fried wild turkey, so I wasn’t going to steer away from that, but I was looking for a slightly different way to serve it this year compared to how I have in the past. Adding some fresh greens and vegetables to the fried turkey and morels, along with my favorite salad dressing, was the way to go! The Lemon Pepper seasoning in the turkey breading and the salty/crunchiness of the fried morels complimented each other perfectly in the salad.
Seeing a bald eagle soaring high above is a magical experience for most Americans. I never take seeing an eagle for granted because generations of Missourians who came before us rarely had a chance to see an eagle in the wild. As sightings of our nation’s symbol of freedom continue to increase, we cannot forget the dire straights these magnificent creatures once faced.
Missouri’s Youth Turkey Season and regular Spring Turkey Season is approaching fast. With about a month to go, there are many preparations to be made…most importantly, locating some birds. This is accomplished by scouting. There are those lucky folks who basically return to the same tree year after year to tag out each spring. But most of us mere mortals aren’t so lucky and need to spend some time searching for this year’s flock.
